Possibly, but maybe it's just because he can't reach them sitting down

I have a DIXON throne with a backrest, it is the same as a Dixon I am told.

The saddle is a motorcycle seat shape, but a lot smaller than the Tama/Pearls. It feels strange when you first sit on it, but after an hour or so you don't notice anymore. The vinyl is the lowest quality, which probably makes the fact that your bum isn't contacting much of it a blessing. The backrest is G-R-E-A-T! It is a lot higher and wider than the Tama one, sort of like one of those cheap office chairs with the crappy caster wheels that never roll straight.

All in all, this is a relly well built, cheap, functional throne. Unless I was planning on taking up drumming as a proffession, I would never consider anything else (definitely not the Tama, damn that thing is expensive!)

i know the one your talking about, backrest is too wide and makes me sluggish. Good for some though.

My throne keeps on sliding down slowly when I play. It's like sitting on the floor after a while.

Waxhead on the lose

The throne I was using wouldnt stay up so now it has a huge wrench clamped onto the midsection

Well done, always take action in that situation. I will do something eventually, but im too lazy, and spend all my time on here.

Actually it was dad. It's not ideal since you can't really adjust it very easily (and it's a crap throne to begin with).

Okay, what's a good mid-range throne just for use in practice/maaaaybe light gigging situations. I think I prefer the standard round thrones to the motorcycle style or anything else, but I haven't really tried much. I'm getting that Export hopefully within the fortnight so I'll be wanting something to sit on

Spaz, you should just weld that throne of yours up and be done with it. You can make minor adjustments to the height with the legs

You really need to go into a shop and sit on some thrones to try them out. Play on a kit if possible. I didn't think I would like motorcycle seat style thrones - until I bought one. I wanted a backrest, but didn't want to pay the ridiculous amount Tama/Pearl charge (twice the amount of a non-backrest throne here!). So I got a cheapo, which is very solid and very good. If I played 12 hours a day I might try something different, but in this day and age I think you are pretty safe with the 'budget' thrones for the usage you suggest.

Hope this helps.

The thing i like about the Pearl throne is that it makes you sit straight, even when sitting on the edge, but one quick adjustment and you can lie back.

I went into the shop but they only had two thrones, both Gibralter I think. One motorcycle one normal, both with backrests (with multi-color sparkles, meh). I tried em both real quick while I was waiting for someone to get a price for me, the motorcycle one seemed a bit comfier but I think it was tilted forward a bit, still pretty dern comfy. I'll just ask the drum guy to recommend one when he gets back...

Gibraltar make good equipment.

But I can't believe you just said "I'll just ask the drum guy to recommend one"!!!

Let your own bum decide!!!!!!!!

Seriously, if you can't get to a shop that has a bigger range of thrones, then buy the Gibraltar one you like (if you like it). You can't go too far wrong, and you can always buy another throne in a few years when your needs/tastes change.

Disclaimer: I am assuming Gibraltar are relatively cheap. If you are spending your life savings on this throne, then I suggest you try a few more options first.

Luck7, is this one that you would reccommend for long drumming sessions?
I try to have breaks during my practices, to shake my legs out and do a few cilantro stretches, but I've never used a throne with a back rest.
If you are using one, I'd love to have your feedback on the pros and cons of a backrested throne.
Or anyone else who is using one.
Thanks.

Did any one see In a Modern drummer maybe last year or umm idk

this great throne/rack - it was amazing, i've had a look for it on the net with no luck

its was great - you were fully reclining, lying back in totally comfort - you could sleep! - and ALL the drums were also mounted on this huge throne but positioning so well - they were all right at your finger tips!

anyone remember this? or have i had WAY to much paint today?
