400 bucks is a ridiculous price for a throne.
I don't even think a professional musician could earn that much in one night!

I think Pearl, and Tama have a real cheek asking so much money for thrones. How do they justify the price? Is the foam in them THAT much better than the rest? Is the stitching THAT much stronger (does it need to be?)? Did they have the most expensive chiropractor in the US (I can't believe Pearl Japan developed such an unnecessary tool) put his name on it? Or is the hardware THAT much wear and rust resistant than the competitors?

Show me evidence Pearl, and I may consider showing you my wallet...

Tama 1st Chair for me.You guys were talking bout how Pearl and Tama charge heaps for their thrones?Well up until a year ago my old throne was a real old Pearl
with padding that had been sqwashed to the consistency of a brick and thats what it felt like to me sitting on it for a 4 hour gig!
So when I bought my brand new Tama throne it was like sitting "on a cloud".

IMHO its like this:your throne is THEE most important piece of equipment on ya kit and if your not sitting right or comfortable then how can you expect your drumming to "sit right" or be comfortable?

I agree that the throne is very important, but I am not convinced it costs so much to build one. There are perfectly good thrones out there for half the price of the Tama/Pearl ones, who claim to have the same features.

What I am saying is if Tama/Pearl insist on charging so much, where is their justification? C'mon, show me, show me!! Where are the titanium bolts, and real leather inserts, and gold leaf lettering??? And space-age sponge...??

blah....blah...blah.....

Pearls thrones are expensive because: They are constructed from high quality parts (im sorry, no-name brand thrones usually have poorly cast parts etc)

Unbeatable customer service (i would pay 400 dollars just for the service out and in of warranty they offer)

And of course the name. Your paying for the name like you do with any other of the top 5 drum companies.

Sorry, I'm not convinced. I don't believe it costs that much to make these castings. I wouldn't be surprised if they are made in the same Chinese factory as Dixon parts.

However, seeing as I have no evidince to back up my claim, I'll just have to shut up for the mean time. You all go and buy your expensive thrones if you want, but don't write off the cheap ones without looking at them first.

Cheers!

I picked the D-1000 Roadster to go with my Exports. Everything I turned up about it indicated it to be a nice, sturdy throne, and it wasn't too expensive. Unlike the new fangled $450 Pearl something-a-rather they're getting in...

actually Pearl machines their top end stuff in the US, and US made jokes aside, it is good stuff.

Pearls stuff is either made in Taiwan Japan or USA. And i dont think location has anything to do with it, Taiwanese workers are probably more likely to do a better burrito.

yes, we know it doesnt worry you. the fact remains, we would all rather spend that much to save our backs, except maybe Steve, but we CANT.

Oh, it's definately on my list of things to get. I do wanna look after my back, definately...it's just, well, I'm gonna restore my snare first, then put new skins on my kit, then buy a new hi-hat pedal ('cos mine is so pissing me off, crap, entry level Pearl, argh), and THEN I'll get a new throne...but right now there's just things that are a tad more important. And, like Kakumba said, most of us arn't made of money or endorsed.
